Welcome to the Blog

A little about who I am, why I'm writing, and what you can expect to find in this space.

Hi, I'm Rachel. I'm a registered dietitian, and I am so glad you're here.

For as long as I have been doing this work, I have believed one simple thing: good food belongs to everyone. Not just the people who can afford a personal chef or a pristine pantry, but the families standing in line at a Head Start kitchen, the kids who only eat well when school feeds them, and the communities that get overlooked again and again. This blog is where I get to write about all of it.

Why I'm writing

Most of my career has happened in places you don't usually associate with "nutrition advice." I rebuilt a Head Start food program from pre-made trays into real kitchens cooking from scratch, and I trained the staff to keep it going. I helped families grow their own food through a community garden. I learned that the gap between knowing what's healthy and actually being able to eat it is wide, and that closing it is the whole job.

I wanted a place to think out loud about that work. Somewhere I could share what I'm learning, the practical and the hopeful, without the fear and the fads that so much nutrition writing leans on. No shame, no rules you can't live with. Just real food, made reachable.

What you can expect

I'll be writing about cooking from scratch on a real budget, food access and equity, and the kind of everyday nutrition you can actually use. I'll share notes from the field, the lessons from kitchens and gardens and the programs I'm building now, including Benibel, a nutrition app meant to make eating well doable for anyone, and a nonprofit to feed children and families on the margins.

Some of it will be practical. Some of it will be personal. All of it comes from the same place: a deep belief that nourishing food is for everyone, and a stubborn determination to make that true.

Come along

This is just the beginning, and I'm building it in the open. If something here resonates, or if you're a practitioner doing this work too, I would love to hear from you. You can always reach out, or ask Lily in the corner.

Thanks for being here at the start. Let's get cooking.
